Woman accused of stealing needy children’s gifts loses pre-trial petition

(By Cy Ryan, Las Vegas, Sun) CARSON CITY -- A Las Vegas woman accused of stealing toys and gift cards collected as Christmas gifts for needy children has lost a pre-trial petition to the Nevada Supreme Court. Vera Lopez operated "The House of Teens" and in 2009 and 2010 obtained toys and $10 WalMart gift cards from the Firefighters of Southern Nevada Burn Foundation. Lopez received 2,400 toys in 2009 from the foundation to distribute to The Solid Rock Christian Church. Nicole Stocks, head of operations for the foundation, became suspicious and notified police. Former Nevada tourism official reflects on his stint at N. Korea casino

They both lust for Chinese gamblers. Goodman has worked both sides of the fence, at one point based in Hong Kong and organizing Las Vegas junkets for Chinese gamblers, and later being hired to recruit Chinese gamblers to a new casino in a port city on North Korea’s northeast tip. Nevada Supreme Court reverses conviction on violation of lawyer-client privilege

(By Cy Ryan, Las Vegas Sun) CARSON CITY – The Nevada Supreme Court has reversed 13 felony convictions of a Las Vegas mother because her lawyer violated attorney-client confidence. Marilyn M. Toston had been arrested in 2010 and sentenced to up 120 months in prison for forging documents to take money out of the trust fund of her son. The court said that her lawyer, Althea Gilkey, testified that Toston said she had illegally taken the money from the $800,000 trust of her son, of which she was the trustee. Three attorneys face Righthaven inquiry by State Bar

(By Steve Green, Las Vegas Sun) Copyright lawsuit filer Righthaven LLC of Las Vegas was hit with a new problem Thursday when the State Bar of Nevada said it’s launching formal proceedings to deal with grievances involving Righthaven CEO Steven Gibson and two former Righthaven attorneys. The State Bar, which regulates attorneys, has since as early as the Fall of 2010 received complaints from unidentified parties about Righthaven and has been watching Righthaven’s litigation campaign work its way through the courts.
